Assessment of the Northwest rural Territories resource potential from the organic food production perspective

The aim of the study was a comprehensive analysis of the availability and efficiency of using the resource potential of agriculture, including for the production of organic products, on the example of the regions of the North-West. Economic and statistical methods of research, rating assessments, and cluster analysis were used. The method of multivariate comparative analysis was used in the ranking of the regions. It is shown that the assessment methodology depends on the chosen approach to determining the essence of the concept of "resource potential", among which natural resource and integrated approaches are distinguished. It is noted that in order to determine the prospects for the development of organic production, it is more appropriate to consider together the individual components of the resource potential of the agricultural sector: production, land, investment, etc. Clustering of the regions of the Northwestern Federal District was carried out, depending on the availability and level of use of the available resource potential, reflecting territorial differentiation. It is concluded that in relation to the regional conditions of the North-West, the available resource potential creates favorable opportunities for the development of organic agriculture, especially due to the presence of significant areas of unused land and proximity to the largest markets for products.
