Influence of precipitation on frost resistance of varieties and forms of figs in the collection of Nikita Botanical Gardens

The Crimea has a great potential for commercial cultivation of subtropical crops, however, it is not used in full; therefore, the purpose of this article is to study the adaptability of figs varieties (Ficus carica L.) to the climatic features of the Southern Coast of Crimea on winter hardiness components to use in breeding and identify the potential of some varieties and forms for cultivation in other areas of the Crimea. Winter hardiness was evaluated according to the method of S.I. Elmanov, 1959, E.A. Yablonsky, T.S. Elmanova, T.P. Kucherova, A.M. Sholokhov, 1976, T.S. Elmanova and Z.N. Perfilieva, 1999. Researches were carried out in laboratory conditions on the base of Nikita Botanical Gardens, on annual fig shoots. The damage degree of different shoot tissues from negative temperatures and the amount of precipitation during the growing season was evaluated.
