Introduced strawberry varieties for industrial use and breeding

The aim of this work was evaluation of the new introduced strawberry varieties productivity and marketable quality for industrial cultivation and breeding research in the conditions of the Krasnodar Territor. The research was carried out at the strawberry collection plot of the FSBSI NCFSCHVW. The objects of study were 14 strawberry varieties bred in the Netherlands, Italy and Great Britain. The control sample was the local selection variety named Nelly. Collection samples were evaluated in 2020-2022. The following traits were estimated: average berry weight, biological yield and the pulp density of berry. The study of berries productivity and quality was carried out in accordance with the "Program and methodology of variety studies for fruit, berry and nut crops" and "The program of the North Caucasian Center for the breeding of fruit, berry, flower and ornamental crops and grapes for the period up to 2030". When the varieties were growing, a standard strawberry cultivation technology was used. Mathematical data processing by the studied traits was carried out using a special manual "Biometrics". The performed variance analysis has shown a significant influence of the factors "variety", "year" and the interaction «variety ½ year» on the all studied traits. For estimation of the stability of the studied strawberry genotypes for each trait, the coefficient of variation was used. To describe the biological closeness of the studied traits, due to the specificity of strawberry varieties genotypes, coefficients of Pearson's correlation and covariances were used. The degree of variational series association in the following pairs of traits was evaluated: average berry weight and biological yield; average berry weight and pulp density; berry biological yield and pulp density. As a result of the work carried out, strawberry varieties were identified distinguished by the best combination of the studied traits, which determine a good prospect for industrial cultivation: Nelly, Florence, Tea, Aura and Olympia, as well as varieties of practical interest for breeding and genetic research and characterized by high genotype stability: Syria and Vivaldi.
