Problems and economic aspects of sheep breeding innovative development in Russia and the Krasnodar Territory

The prospects for the development of sheep breeding in the Krasnodar Territory are substantiated. Mutton production is a priority direction for the development of the industry. It is established that in order to ensure the economic efficiency of meat sheep breeding, firstly it is necessary to change the qualitative composition of the livestock based on improving the sheep breed gene pool. Among the main reasons for the negative situation in this area, the historically developed in Soviet times concept of orientation to wool production, which led to the absence of purely meat domestic breeds, as well as the termination of breeding work in order to breed domestic highly effective meat breeds, are highlighted. The conditions of profitability of the industry are determined and the sauthors came to the conclusion that its effective development requires a transition to intensive sheep breeding technology and optimization of the parameters of state support.
