Fermentation analysis of alfalfa haylage

This article reviews the evaluation of alfalfa haylage fermentation. The fermentation report is intended to provide a comparative evaluation that allows the user to better characterize the forage and to lend insight into possible dry matter intake and performance problems. But perhaps more important application of the fermentation report is the management of the hay-making process. Significant breakdowns in the management of the haymaking process will manifest itself as forage with less desirable fermentation characteristics. Exactly, quality forage provides the basis of profitable livestock farming. The type and degree of fermentation significantly affects the amount of dry matter extracted from the haylage making process. The primary task in harvesting bulky forages is to quickly reduce the amount of oxygen and increase acidity rapidly so that lactic acid bacteria grow to stabilize the forage. The air trapped in the grass mass gives rise to the growth of aerobic microorganisms, yeasts and molds [7, 8]. As a result, the material decomposes into a useless, inedible and often toxic product. The second objective is to inhibit the activities of undesirable clostridia and enterobacteria. Therefore, our task was to study how the microflora forms in haylage at the beginning of ensiling (4 days), in the middle (10 to 12 days) and at the final stage of preservation (30 days). Andto determine whether the green mass was contaminated during harvesting, since contamination of the grass by microorganisms in the soil can cause the growth of undesirable microflora as well. In this article, we look at the effects of some common haylage additives, including microbial inoculants, enzymes and molasses.
