Dependence of photosynthesis Juniperus excelsa M.Bieb from environmental factors under normal conditions and under soil drought conditions

Ecological and physiological studies of rare and protected plant species are a necessary basis for their conservation. The quantitative data about the needs of plants to light, heat and soil moisture are needed. In this paper the ecophysiological reaction of immature plants Juniperus excelsa M.Bieb on effect of progressive soil drought was studied. The optimal and threshold values of environmental factors limiting photosynthesis rate of J. excelsa plants under conditions of the Southern coast of the Crimea were estimated. Threshold values ecological factors limiting net photosynthesis rate of J. excelsa plants under normal water regime are: leaves temperature - more than 38оC and PAR - more than 1300 µmol/(m2·s). Optimal light and temperature conditions for intensive growth: leaf temperature from 26 to 30оC, light regime: full sunlight in the range PAR 800-1300 µmol/(m2·s) when soil moisture 80-100% FC. For a deeper understanding of the tolerance mechanisms and physiological adaptation of immature J. excelsa plants to stress loads and to chronic exposure to unfavorable factors further research in this area is indicated.
