Investigation of self-pollinated forms of sweet sorghum as the parent material for the creation of hybrids in the conditions of Crimea

As a result of research in 2018-2021, 42 self-pollinated forms of sweet sorghum of different geographic origin from the collection of the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Genetic Resources of Plants and selection of the Institute "Agrotechnological Academy" FSAEI HE "V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University" on morpho-biological characteristics, productivity. On average, over four years of research, the highest shoot yield was observed in Krymskoe 15 (48.9 t/ha) and Kansas orange (46.9 t/ha). These samples are recommended in the breeding process for the creation of high-yielding new varieties of sweet sorghum. It has been established that when creating highly productive hybrids with a high content of sugars in the juice of the stems, it is necessary to take into account the content of sugars in the stems of the parental forms.Varieties recommended for breeding work: Krysakor 12/1, Pitatelnoe, Pamyati Shepelya, PNS 2-13, Listvenit, Kansas orange, Rox orange, Prosvet 1/1 (sugar content of the stem juice more than 17%). Sweet sorghum sugar syrup can be used in food industry as well as in the production of ethanol. Krymskoe 15 and Kansas orange, the varieties with high sugar output.
Keywords: Sweet sorghum, self-pollinated form, productivity, sugar content in juice of stem.
