Alternative nutrition for the mass breeding of the predatory bug Macrolophus caliginosus Wagner

Various methods of processing the brine shrimp Artemia salina (Kurgan, Kurgan region) were tested on the predatory bug Macrolophus caliginosus Wagner (Hemiptera: Miridae), which is a polyphagous. Several continuous generations have fed on three species of decapsulated cysts of Artemia salina. For control, we used traditional type of food for the bug mass rearing - the eggs of the grain moth Sitotroga cerealella Oliv. This article presents the results of the study of the predatory bug Macrolophus caliginosus Wagner feeding with decapsulated cysts Artemia salina: Artemia 1 (decapsulation using ascorbic acid); Artemia 2 (decapsulation with citric acid), Artemia 3 (enriched in fatty acids) and with eggs of the grain moth Sitotroga cerealella Oliv as a control. Demographic parameters and development of the adults reared with cysts of Artemia 1 and Artemia 2, were as good as those of moth eggs were. We concluded that proposed feeding method is an alternative to the traditional one and helps to increase the productivity of the predator.
