Interrelation of total polished rice and degree of grain damage in the form of dark spots

Rice production profitability is reduced due to grain damage in the form of dark spots during rice processing and, as a result, the amount of feed waste increases. In recent years, the Federal Scientific Rice Centre has been conducting research on the intensity of damage to the rice grain, since the patterns of the appearance of dark spots on bran and seed covering of rice grain have not been fully studied. An analysis of grain damage in the form of dark spots of short-grain rice varieties of the Federal Scientific Rice Centre (Rapan, Flagman, Olimp) under field conditions grown in an ecological variety test in the Krasnoarmeysky district at ESOS Krasnaya in 2018 in connection with head rice content was performed. Black spot disease or grain damage in the form of dark spots has been identified and is found in northern Japan, Brazil, Venezuela, the United States of America, Cuba, Mexico and the Caribbean. Damage to grain in the form of dark spots during the filling period is known in most rice-producing countries; with high reproduction of insects, it is possible to increase the grain sterility and reduce grain quality. Until 2000, damage to rice grain in the form of dark spots in the country was explained by the influence of pathogenic microflora. It was shown that the damage is associated with pathogenic effects of insect bugs having a piercing-sucking mouth apparatus on the plant and caryopsis. In 2012, the content of damaged grains reached 3,8 % due to the invasion of locusts, meadow moths, corn bugs, and therefore a state of emergency was declared. In 2013-2018 damage to the grain was minor.
