The effect of seed size, method of seed calibration and seeding date on the depth of bedding of the tillering node of winter wheat plants in the conditions of the Central Chernozem Region

The paper presents the results of studies conducted in 2015-2016 and 2018 in order to determine the effect of seed size, method of seed calibration and date of sowing on the depth of bedding of the tillering node of soft winter wheat plants in the conditions of the Central Chernozem Region. Seed fractions were obtained as a result of their grading by specific weight and geometric dimensions of the kernel (width and thickness). Uncalibrated seeds were used as a control. Sowing was carried out in three terms with an interval of 10 days, starting from the first decade of September. Experiments, relevant records and observations were carried out according to standard for the CChR Methodological Instructive Regulations. Biometric analysis of plants was performed at the end of the autumn vegetation period. Significant differences in the parameters were registered in the cases of seed calibration by geometric dimensions using screens and an experimental sample of a sreenless separator. In the cases of seed calibration by aerodynamic properties, differences in the parameters were registered only when sowing was carried out at the first decade of September. When sowing large seeds, the advantage in the depth of bedding of the tillering node was noted only in certain years. Analysis of the crop structure showed a negative relationship between the depth of bedding of the tillering node, the number of grains, their weight, and kernel size. In the cases of seed calibration by screenless separator, the correlation coefficients of the depth of bedding of the tillering node with the elements of productivity were insignificant (not more than 0.47). The obtained results allow for the conclusion that this method of seed preparation leads to changes in contingency, and its practical use will provide much more opportunities to select from each seed lot those factions, while sowing of which the negative relationship between the studied parameters will be next to none, either this relationship will be weak.
