Environmental and biological assessment of the genus Astragalus L. in conditions of landscapes of the Novgorod Region

Preservation of species diversity in the flora of the Novgorod region implies maintaining optimal conditions for the growth and development of plants in natural cenoses. Literature and herbarium data are generalized and an analysis of the results of geobotanical studies is given, which makes it possible to identify plant communities in which plants of the genus Astragalus L. grow. Morphological characteristics of plants of the genus Astragalus L. are described, their ecological plasticity, and distribution features in floristic regions of the Novgorod region are revealed. The age structure, the dynamics of the number of species, the frequency of fruiting, and developmental features in ecotopes typical of a particular species were studied. To preserve species diversity, it is necessary to preserve natural plant communities along the banks of the Lovat, Msta, and Mologa rivers, in which plants of the genus Astragalus L. grow. Less common communities of calcephilic species in the Batetsk and Borovichi regions. Plant communities of the Ilmensky Glint, the banks of the Psizhi River in the Starorussky and Shimsky districts, where isolated finds of A. danicus Retz were recorded. Anthropogenically modified - the shore of Lake Ilmen and the bank of the Volkhov River, where A. glycyphyllus L. is found. To maintain a stable level of the number of species studied, measures have been developed to preserve biodiversity in natural places of growth.
