Yield and quality of some varieties of winter wheat in the steppe Crimea after sunflower as a preceding crop

Data on the productivity and quality of some varieties of winter wheat grown after sunflower as a preceding crop are presented in this article. Varieties that provided the maximum yield in 2017 and 2018 were identified. The experimental studies were carried out on the trial fields of the FSBSI “Research Institute of Agriculture of Crimea” (located in the central steppe zone of the Crimean Peninsula). Preceding crop - sunflower. Cultivation technology - generally accepted in the region. The accounting area of the experimental plot - 25 m2. Field experiments were replicated four times in a systematic design. These experiments were accompanied by appropriate observations, records, measurements, and analyses according to the methodology of GOSSORTOISPYTANIE (state standard for strain testing). For all statistical analyses B.А. Dospekhov methodology was used. The protein and gluten content in wheat grain was determined using grain analyzer "Inframatic 9500". Weather conditions during the years of the experiments were contrasting. According to the availability of moisture, the vegetation period 2016-2017 was favorable; 2017-2018 was characterized as unfavorable because of drought. The results of the studies showed that under typical weather conditions, the average winter wheat yield was 2.87 t/ha, under arid conditions - 1.13 t/ha. Varieties Bagira, Donna, Kuyalnik, and Lydia were the most productive. Their yields were 2.29; 2.22; 2.21 and 2.00 t/ha, respectively. 1000-grain weight of the studied varieties was, on average, 36.7 g in 2017 and 30.4 g in 2018. The largest grain on average over the years of research formed varieties Aksinya (35.8 g), Donna (34.9 g), Kapitan (34.8 g), Bagrat and Lydia (34.6 g). Protein content in the wheat grain of Kuyalnik, Bagira, Donna, Stan, Kurs, Aksinya, and Kapitan varieties was more than 10%. This allows rating them as the 4th-class quality. All other varieties formed feed grain.
