Evaluation of the Colorado beetle injury for some potato cultivars

This article presents the results of 3-years studies of resistance to Colorado butle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say) of some russian and byelorussian potato varieties. 45 of these potato varieties were tested in the laboratory conditions, under the temperature of 22 degrees above zero. By three weigh leaves of each cultivar were placed in special polyethylene camera, on the moist filter paper. And then by 5 larvas of Colorado beetle were placed on the leaves of each potato cultivar. Then in 72 honrs the remains of leaves were weighed to determine the eater leave mass percent. As a result of this study no one cultivar was find completely resistant to Colorado beetle.But there were defined that it was the difference in damage degree. The varieties Gusar, Uladar, Udacha, Charodey, Najada, Krepisch were more resistant to colorado beetle, than the others. These varieties were tested in the field conditions. Twice in season amount of eggs layings, larvas and grown-up Colorado beetles were accounted on the plants of these cultivars. In antumn the damage degree for each cultivar was defined. As a result relatively resistant to this pest potato varieties are identified. One of them is cultivar Gusar.
