Some aspects of in vitro cultivation of the scarlet sage (Salvia splendens Sellow ex Schult.)

Salvia splendens Sellow ex Schult. isone of the best plants for patterned flower beds, carpets and pots, is often used in urban landscaping. Breeders obtained F1 hybrids, characterized by powerful growth and long inflorescences. For the essential oil obtained from scarlet sage, bactericidal and fungicidal activity is shown. Works on scarlet sageare few in number. When studying the effect of surface sterilization of seeds on the germination efficiency in experimental variants, low indices were compared with the control (non-sterile germination), some sterilization regimes did not allow obtaining any aseptic sprouts. The greatest effectiveness of sterilization was achieved with a 15-minute exposure in a 5% solution of sodium hypochlorite. In the studied media of different hormonal composition, callusogenesis was obtained only when explant segments of the stem were used on the MS nutrient medium with the addition of 0.5 mg/l 6-benzylademime and 1 mg/lα-naphtaleneacetic acid.
