Contribution to study of the carabid beetles complex (Coleoptera, Carabidae) of agrarian landscape in the foothill zone of Krasnodar Territory in winter

Winter activity of some carabid beetle species in agrocoenoses in the foothill zone of Krasnodar Territory is established not only during temporary warming (so called ''windows'), but also during the snow and freezing weather. The studies were conducted in the foothill zone of Krasnodar Territory in the town of Goryachy Klyuch (stanitsa Imeretinskaya) in the period December, 2015 - February, 2017. Insects were collected using the Barber traps. Total 1259 adults and larvae of the carabid beetles belonging to 17 species of 14 genera were collected over the study period. Larvae of Leistus ferrugineus, Harpalus rufipes, and Nebria brevicollis dominated. Only 15 species possess the Imago stage in winter, of which namely Acupalpus suturalis, Harpalus distinguendus, Nebria brevicollis, Pterostichus anthracinus, Trechus quadristriatus, Acupalpus suturalis, Nebria brevicollis, Pterostichus anthracinus, and Trechus quadristriatus dominated. The full demographic spectrum was observed at experimental plot for the following dominant species: Pterostichus anthracinus, Nebria brevicollis, and Harpalus rufipes. Thus it could be interpreted as "residential" for these species, possibly Harpalus distinguendus also inhabits the experimental plot, since only its juvenile stage was not recorded, this may be caused by its low activity. For dominant species Trechus quadristriatus and Acupalpus suturalis due to their incomplete demographic spectrum target biotope should be interpreted only as a "transit" one. It is established, that the number of adults and larvae is active during snowmelt and emergence of thawed patches. Carabid beetles collected during these studies should be classified as “true winter organisms”.
