Ecological and Anatomical Specifics of Some Representatives of the Genus Artemisia L., Asteraceae, in the Flora of the North-West Caucasus

The ecological specifics of four species of wormwood (Artemisia annua, A. absinthium, A. taurica, A. vulgaris) growing in the plant communities of the studied region are revealed. The plant associations with the wormwood species under study are identified, their phytocoenotic role and degree of confinement to these associations are revealed. The results of the study of the anatomical structure of the stems of the investigated species of wormwood are provided. The representatives of the genus Artemisia are of great economic importance. In the Caucasus, some species serve as good fodder plants and are readily eaten by cattle; these plants are especially valued as an autumn feed. Other species are used as ornamental plants. Absolutely all varieties of Artemisia are good ether-bearing plants and that makes it possible to widely use some of their essential oils in perfumery, soap making, or food industry. The high amounts of biologically active components in Artemisia promote the wormwood wide use as medicinal plants due to their therapeutic effects.
