The Effects of Different Stocking Density on the Physiological Status in Broilers of Russian Cross "Smena-9"

It is well known that stocking density in broiler production can significantly affect productivity, livability, and health status in broilers. The effects of different stocking density (14, 16 and 18 birds/m2) on the productive performance, hematological parameters, and biochemical parameters in blood serum in broilers of newly selected Russian cross "Smena-9" were studied in conditions of floor housing until 38 days of age on sawdust litter. The blood was sampled from the auxillary vein at 38 days of age. The output of live bodyweight per unit of the floor area with these stocking densities was 38, 43 and 47 kg/m2, respectively. There were no significant differences between the treatments in the physiological status of broilers assessed on the basis of blood parameters. However, the European production efficiency factor (EPEF), as opposed to the bodyweight output, decreased with the increase in stocking density: average daily weight gains decreased by 0.4-2.6%, mortality and feed conversion ratio increased by 2.3 and 1.1%, respectively. The highest stocking density resulted in insignificantly lower hematocrit and percentage of heterophils in blood and higher percentage of lymphocytes; the lowest stocking density resulted in lower concentration of uric acid and higher activity of aspartate transaminase in blood serum.
