Occurrence of beta-casein genotypes in the population of black-and-white Holstein dairy cattle

The development of animal breeding at the present day involves the introduction of new biotechnological methods for assessing traits based on the analysis of genetic information. The article presents the results of studying the frequency of occurrence of A1 and A2 alleles and genotypes of the beta-casein gene (CSN2) among heifers of the Black-and-White Holstein breed (n = 360). It was found that the frequency of occurrence of the A2 allele in the studied population is significantly higher than the average value of other populations, which indicates directed selection and breeding work in the herd according to this trait. Also, from the heifers that passed the genomic evaluation in comparison with the reference base of the US Holstein cattle, 2 groups were formed (the indicator is more or less than 0) according to three studied characteristics: milk yield, productive longevity, pregnancy rate. As a result of a reliable relationship of the heritability of these traits with alleles or CSN2 genotypes in this population, it was not revealed, which makes it possible to carry out systematic breeding work to saturate the population with the A2A2 genotype without reducing productive or fertile qualities.
