Evaluation of the genotype-environment interaction in poplar hybrids by the Eberhart-Russell method

When assessing the interaction of genotype-environment by the Eberhart and Russell method, ecological plasticity, or the ability of an organism to tolerate the adverse influence of a particular environmental factor and environmental stability, or the ability of a variety to maintain its structure and functions in the process of exposure to internal and external environmental factors, are studied. The assessment of the ecological parameters of the new poplar hybrids was carried out on the materials of three variety testing sites. The plots are located in the Voronezh and Tambov regions. At these sites 6 of the same promising hybrids were selected. Among them - Arctur, Arta, Veduga, Versija, Vertical, Erida. The average height increments were studied. The coefficients of productivity regression for changes in environmental conditions and standard deviations from the regression line are determined. Studies have shown that the highest regression coefficient was in the hybrid Veduga: r1 = 1.297, then with a decrease this coefficient was for Erida (1.118), Arta (1.008), Vertical (0.986), and Versija (0.836). The lowest level was found in the hybrid Arctur (0.735). The study of the ecological stability of the same hybrids showed that the greatest stability of the average growth in height in the studied points of growth is distinguished by the hybrids Vertical and Veduga with a variation of less than one. The State Varieties Commission of the Russian Federation has issued an author's certificate for the variety and a patent for the Veduga hybrid. Hybrids with average growth stability include the hybrids Erida and Arctur with a variation of about 2. The least ecological stability was shown by the hybrids Versija and Arta with a variance value of 2.8-2.9. In general studies have shown that testing poplar varieties under different conditions allows us to obtain a more complete characteristic of them, taking into account their environmental plasticity and stability.
