Results of testing the selection material of Ostrolist sort type of Nicotiana tabacum [Lin.]

Keeping, renovating, and expanding the selection and genetic resources of Nicotiana tabacum [Lin.] is the basic aim of the selection work carried in the FSBScI ARRITMTP (Krasnodar). Competitive and state sort testing are the highest parts of the selection process of creating new sorts. Their results are the reasons for sort zoning. Results of four sorts testing of Ostrolist sort type are presented in the article. All work was carried on the base of the institute chemistry and quality control and selection and genetic resources laboratories, greenhouse and experimental and selection field. General for the selection process and elaborated in the institute methods were utilized for carrying experiments in all researches. Phenological observations, defining biometric and technological indicators, plant productivity, quality, chemical composition of the cured tobacco and other characteristics were carried during the sort testing process. More than 60% of the crop of Krupnolistniy Ilskiy sort is harvested in optimal for curing vegetation period, harvesting time is 6 days shorter than for reference variety, but productivity and quality remain the same. Cured tobacco of Krupnolistniy 9M sort has 3 times more of soluble carbohydrates content compared with the reference. Improved Oktiabrskiy sort is much more productive than reference, resistant to sunscald and has good commercial quality. Ostrolist 360 sort has 6 days shorter harvesting time than the reference, but productivity and quality remain the same. It has good technological quality. The obtained researches results prove the necessity of further work with all tested sorts.
