Evaluation of strawberry varieties and hybrids obtained in the breeding program of FSBSI NCFSCHVW

The purpose of the research was a comparative evaluation of the varieties and hybrids of FSBSI NCFSCHVW breeding with the best varieties of strawberry zoned in the North Caucasus region based on a number of economically valuable traits. The work was performed on the basis of a research and breeding collection of genetic resources of horticultural crops of the FSBSI NCFSCHVW. The objects of study were 5 varieties and 5 hybrid forms of strawberry of the institute breeding, as well as 3 zoned strawberry varieties. He recorded traits were: the number of inflorescences, number of berries, average fruit weight, fruit firmness, yield. The study of varieties and hybrids as performed according to the "Program and methods of fruit, small fruit and nut-bearing variety study" and "Program of the North Caucasus Center for the selection of fruit, berry, flower and ornamental crops and grapes for the period until 2030". An estimation of the variability and similarity of strawberry genotypes by the studied traits was assessed in two steps - by using of univariate and multivariate statistical analysis. The allocation of the studied genotypes into homogeneous groups combining varieties and selections by the complex of traits was carried out using cluster analysis according to the Ward's method. As a result of the analysis, the strawberry varieties and hybrids were divided into homogeneous groups, including genotypes similar to each other in a set of traits. The group with the best combination of characteristics included the varieties Nelli and Bogota. Low rates of productivity and quality of berries are noted for varieties Honeoye, Elegia and hybrid 13-1-15. The Nelly variety is one of the best zoned strawberry varieties in the North Caucasus region today in terms of yield and quality of berries. The Kemia variety and such hybrid selections as 20-1-15, 18-1-15 have a good commercial prospective for use in industrial production in the South of Russia. The Taira and Elegia varieties are suitable for testing in other zones of the region.
