Economic analysis of pond fish farming development in Russia

Fish farming is one of the most profitable branches of modern aquaculture worldwide. Russia despite the unique natural and climatic conditions of aquaculture production occupies one of the last places in terms of development of fishing and fish breeding. More than 50% of commercial aquaculture production accounts for pond fish breeding. The Southern, North-Western, Central, North-Caucasian and Volga Federal districts are the leaders in fish production in ponds, watered quarries, reclamation channels, and irrigation systems. The influence of main factors on economic efficiency of commercial fish production in fish breeding organizations of the Central Federal district was evaluated. Statistical grouping of 40 agricultural organizations of the Central Federal district showed that the maximum net income from 1 ha is received by farms that have a planting density of 16.4 thousand pieces of fish breeding planting/ha. The cost of fish production in fish breeding organizations in the region is largely determined by the cost of feed and its quality, breeding density, the average piece weight of commercial fish and the characteristics of the natural and climatic zone of fish breeding.
