Quality traits of rice grain of accessions of ARRRI breeding from competitive testing

In order to provide rice growing industry with highly productive varieties with high grain quality continuous breeding of varieties is carried out in rice producing countries. The breeding process of rice includes the selection of parental pairs, hybridization, the selection of the best samples based on the results of the evaluation of economically valuable traits and quality traits of rice grain. The aim of the present studies was to study grain quality traits of rice accessions from competitive trials and to identify combinations with low variability of quality traits. As the research material served the rice accessions of ARRRI breeding (competitive variety testing) grown at the experimental production plot of the Institute in 2017, 2018. The mass of 1000 grains and filminess of the grain were determined by GOST methods, vitreousity and fracture were determined using a DSZ-3 diaphragm, the yield and milled rice quality were determined on a LUR-1 laboratory unit. As a result of the assessment of the studied accessions by grain quality traits, it was revealed that the values of traits "mass of 1000 absolutely dry grains", "vitreousity", "head rice content" were the highest in 2018. In order to assess the stability of the varieties and to predict yield quality, the average values and variability of the quality traits of the studied rice varieties were calculated. Variation of traits "mass of 1000 absolutely dry grains", "vitreousity", "filminess" was weak in all studied accessions. The best combination for grain quality: relatively low variability in terms of grain quality, high mass of 1000 absolutely dry grains, vitreousity, low fracture, high head rice content, was the accession of combination № 3.
