Water regime peculiarities and potential drought resistance of apricot in conditions of summer moisture deficit on the Southern Coast of Crimea

The paper presents the results of a drought tolerance study of 11 Prunus armeniaca Lam. genotypes conducted on the basis of the NBG - NSC collection plantations. During periods of the greatest manifestation of summer drought were revealed the water regime characteristic features of 9 varieties of various origin and 2 interspecific hybrids. A comparative characteristic of the water regime parameters indices made it possible to establish the degree of plants ability to adapt to the conditions of deep water deficit. It was established that with prolonged exposure to arid factors leaf loss of 30-35% of moisture becomes critical after which the level of tissue turgor recovery often exceeds the sublethality limits. Varieties Crimean Amur, Alupkinskiy, Lorna, hybrid Frigate show instability of the water regime indices as well as low ability to tolerate extremely high temperatures and lack of moisture. Promising genotypes demonstrating good water-holding ability and high degree of repair after deep water stress were allocated - Lubimets Richtera, Kazachok, Kolobok Golubeva, Brig. Plants resistant to soil and atmospheric drought manifestations can be successfully used in the field of horticulture, introduction, for breeding and widespread introduction into production. Further studies will reveal the most promising genotypes for drought tolerance for cultivation in the southern regions, taking into account their microclimatic characteristics, provide practical recommendations on the selection of the assortment most suitable for a particular ecological and geographical area.
