Import substitution in the Rrussian meat and milk subcomplex

The relevance of the study is due to the food security of the country. The object of study is the import of meat and dairy products to Russia. The study revealed trends in import substitution in the meat and dairy subcomplex. The introduction of sanctions against Russia by the United States, the EU and a number of other countries with all the urgency put the problem of import substitution in the first place, as it is related to the country's food security. The measures taken by the federal authorities in a relatively short period of time basically solved the problem of import substitution. The volume of imports of pork, poultry meat, butter, cheese, and skimmed milk powder to Russia fell sharply. This was facilitated by the rapid increase in the production of pork and poultry meat of domestic production. As a result, in recent years, food exports have increased.Due to the recent years change in suppliers of meat and dairy products, pork, butter, cheese and curd, skimmed milk powder import prices have decreased. The main supplier of meat, poultry by-products, butter, cheese and cottage cheese, skimmed milk powder is Belarus, which is a positive thing. To reduce the import of meat and dairy products in the Russian Federation, first of all it is necessary to focus on strengthening the feed base of animal husbandry. More attention should be paid to the restoration of acreage under perennial grasses. An important import substitution moment in pig production is to provide slaughter and deep cutting enterprises. Other measures should be adjusted, but without damage to agricultural enterprises (allocation of a targeted loan, veterinary and zootechnical services), improvement of the organization of purchases of livestock products, development of logistics, etc.
