Selection of Actinidia polygama (Siebold et Zucc.) Maxim. in ARHIBAN

Actinidia is an uncommon berry crop, which is distinguished by a unique combination of a very high content of ascorbic acid in fruits with low acidity and excellent taste qualities. Far Eastern species Actinidia polygama is the least common among cultivated actinidia species. The leaves and fruits of this species contain biologically active substances valuable in human nutrition: ascorbic acid, carotenoids, monosaccharides. In the collection of the All-Russian Selection and Technological Institute of Horticulture and Breeding Nursery valuable samples have identified - the Tselebnaya and Beta female forms with a high content of ascorbic acid and beta-carotene in fruits. New varieties of actinidia polygama with increased winter hardiness have been created: the large-fruited productive female form Krasna Devitsa and the pollinator - male form Dobrii Molodets. Leaves of these varieties are distinguished by a high accumulation of ascorbic acid, dry matter, chlorophylls and carotenoids.
