Soybean’s heterospermia and its use in seed selection

In the study of three varieties, it was shown that the most objective parameter that exerts a determinative influence on the growth intensity of the seedling is the form of the seed, which is determined by the ratio of its linear dimensions and is expressed by the value of the deformation index. Between the individual linear dimensions of the seeds and the level of their harvest properties, no definite relationship has been established. During all the years of research in three varieties, a negative correlation was observed between the degree of deformity of the seeds and the productivity of plants in the offspring. Thus, the soybean seed sorting system, based on the separation of grain mass on sieves with elongated and round holes (by width and thickness of seeds), is currently imperfect and does not allow to select biologically most valuable seeds. It is necessary to create production lines, the principle of operation of which must be based on the selection of seeds with the optimal form.
