The current state of seed growing of winter crops in the Republic of Mordovia

In conditions of economic intensification, the most important role in increasing the efficiency of domestic crop production belongs to selection and seed production. Seed-growing is a branch of plant growing engaged in mass reproduction of varietal seeds. Selection and seed farming of agricultural plants determine the overall success of the development of crop production. Seed-and-seed work with agricultural plants is a highly profitable, most profitable and affordable method of increasing the efficiency of agriculture in all economically developed countries. In the Republic of Mordovia, about 105-110 thousand tons of seeds of cereals, leguminous and cereal crops are sown annually. From winter crops, winter wheat and winter rye are mainly cultivated. In the Republic of Mordovia systematic work is carried out to improve the varietal qualities of seeds of winter crops. In recent years, there has been a decrease in the number of substandard seeds and seeds of low reproduction. The variety composition of the seeds of winter wheat and winter rye planted in the Republic of Mordovia shows positive steps in terms of sorting and sorting. The share of varieties Marusenka and Rushnik increases in the structure of winter rye crops. At the same time, it is necessary to introduce more recommended new, higher yielding varieties of winter wheat and winter rye into production. There remains a high proportion of seeds of obsolete varieties, and a low proportion of original and elite seeds. It is necessary to modernize the material and technical base of seed production. Investments in the construction of storage facilities for seeds and dryers contribute to accelerated sorting and varietal renewal, as well as the development of mechanisms for private partnership for the production and preparation of seeds of agricultural crops.
