Control of the genetic purity of sunflower lines and hybrids by an isozyme analysis

The main task of sunflower seed growing is maintenance of the high level of the genetic purity of sunflower inbred lines and hybrids. The genetic purity control of the commercial lots of sunflower lines and hybrid seeds using isozyme analysis is comparable to the traditional field control, but technological. But there are some peculiarities which should be taken into account when applying this method. The genetic purity of simple hybrids can be estimated on all analyzed isozyme loci, but the hybridity level is determined only by loci being in heterozygous condition. If one of the parental forms of three way hybrids is in heterozygous condition on one of the isozyme loci that means the genetic purity of the first generation hybrids is determined by loci being in homo- and heterozygous condition. To avoid discrepancy of the laboratory indicators of the typicality of seeds lots to the real ones, at formation of parental line plots for commercial hybrids an isozymes analysis should be conducted with purpose to sort out the progenies heterogeneous even though the one of isozyme system.
