Breeding of rice varieties adapted for the lack of irrigation water

By the nature rice must grow in water, but irrigational systems are created only on 7% of the areas. Half of areas under crops occupied with rice, is irrigated at the expense of rains in most cases these are varieties subspecies indica grown up in Asia. The majority of the Russian varieties belongs to japonica subspecies. Also wild species may be donor of trait. For creation of the Russian rice varieties adapted for a lack of irrigation water has been created material at hybridization of foreign and domestic selection varieties. Sowing hybrid material (0,5 hectares) of fourth - the sixth generations made in April 3-9 when temperatures fell to 3оC, and maturing passed in September - October, also at low temperatures, in period of vegetation the check poured down with water two times, destruction of weed spent with application of herbicide Puma ® Super 100. The norm of the expense of 0,6 l/hectares was sufficient for an effective control of the weeds which are in phases of development to the middle tillering. In the received population of hybrids sources with complex stability to stresses are allocated: to a drought, high and low temperatures in different phases of vegetation. The weight of grain of panicle and a plant at the allocated samples at stress did not differ from that at rice varieties grown up on Kuban in absence of stress. Simultaneously in two replication sowing 40 rice varieties of Russian selection as standards, however all of them were lost or sterile.
