Dwarf carpenter bee features (Xylocopa iris Christ.) on the Taman peninsula

Carpenter bee kind of Xylocopa Latr. are spread in a large part of flat area and foothills of Krasnodar territory. They are anthophyl xylobiont insectes and make their nests in a timber of plants. Dwarf carpenter bee Xylocopa iris Christ. make their nests in stems of annuals and do a serious preparation for stems adaptation for nesting. In the area of Taman peninsula have founded and explored the nest of this species in a stem of Eryngium giganteum M.Bieb. The stem tip is takes off for prevent the fall of dead plants and masking it in the grass. Nest is look like row of different size cells which is full of pollen. The part of cells have founded empty or contain a parasites from family of Ichneumonidae. Conducted measurement of cells and other parameters of nest. In parallel with a certain (arrangement) primitivism (cells of different volume) is observed complex instincts which associated with the preparation of the stem.
